The cleaning source is a commercial cleaning company in Florida. Its June 2, 2026 guide states $250–$500 for a standard commercial machine and $75–$150 for each additional machine at the same location.

Treat these values as a regional provider’s published range. They are not evidence of typical prices in other regions. Get written local quotes that use the same scope.

Ask whether the cleaning price includes:

  • Descaling and sanitizing
  • Disassembly and reassembly

Do not add an included item to the budget a second time.

A filter budget needs the exact cartridge, price, system configuration, rated capacity, and replacement rule.

Hoshizaki’s 2026 equipment price list gives the H9655-11 replacement cartridge a $130 list price. The current H9320 specification documents these system values:

The specification describes the H9320 filters as one-micron nominal. It does not support the previously stated 0.5-micron claim for this cartridge.

A single H9320-51 therefore costs $130 in cartridges per complete change at list price. A complete twin-system change uses two cartridges, and a complete triple-system change uses three.

The $130–$260 annual filter line in the opening scenario represents one or two cartridges. It is suitable only when that cartridge count matches the site’s actual configuration and planned changes. It is not a universal annual allowance.

The current H9320 specification gives rated gallon capacities but does not state a universal six- or twelve-month replacement interval. Use the replacement instruction for the installed system and exact machine. Water conditions and loss of acceptable flow can require action before a theoretical capacity is reached.

A cartridge that physically fits is not automatically an approved substitute. Match the full part number, filter head, number of cartridges, flow requirement, capacity, and treatment claims.

2. Do not treat cleaner and sanitizer as the same chemical#

Descaling and sanitizing are different tasks. A descaler removes mineral deposits. A sanitizer reduces microorganisms when used according to its label and the machine procedure.

Ice-O-Matic’s cited instructions specify cleaning every six months, but no more often than monthly. The instructions state that water quality and filtration affect the required frequency. They require nickel-safe cleaner and nickel-safe sanitizer and direct the operator to sanitize after cleaning.

These are package prices. They are not per-cleaning prices.

The quantity required depends on the exact machine, procedure, concentration, and number of units. Do not infer a cost per treatment unless the applicable machine procedure and chemical label establish the dose.

These Follett-listed products are examples for Follett equipment. Their presence in a Follett price list does not prove approval for a Hoshizaki or Ice-O-Matic model. Use only the cleaner and sanitizer specified for the exact machine.

3. Set cleaning frequency from the exact machine and site#

Six months is a documented baseline for the cited Ice-O-Matic procedure. It is not a universal rule for every commercial ice machine.

Hoshizaki’s general training material recommends cleaning and sanitizing at least annually and states that undesirable water can require more cleaning and external water treatment. Model-specific Hoshizaki schedules can require different intervals. Follow the exact manual when it is more specific than general training material.

The FDA Food Code treats ice as food. Section 4-602.11 says that enclosed components such as ice makers must be cleaned at the manufacturer’s specified frequency. If the manufacturer supplies no frequency, they must be cleaned often enough to prevent soil or mold accumulation.

Evidence at the site can justify a shorter interval:

  • Visible mineral scale
  • Reduced water flow or an abnormal pressure change
  • High production or long operating time
  • Airborne grease, flour, dust, or other contamination
  • Slime, mold, odor, or visible soil
  • Warm or poorly ventilated installation conditions
  • A model-specific instruction or local health requirement

If the exact machine and site require quarterly professional cleaning, four visits at the cited regional range produce $1,000–$2,000 per year. Adding two $130 cartridges gives $1,260–$2,260.

That is scenario arithmetic. It is not a prediction for every hard-water or high-use site.

4. Separate labor rates from complete service prices#

An hourly rate does not state the final invoice. A service company can also charge for:

  • Diagnosis or dispatch
  • Minimum billable time
  • Travel
  • Overtime

6. Distinguish defect coverage from scheduled replacement#

A parts-and-labor warranty is not a maintenance plan, but a replaceable item is not necessarily without defect coverage.

Hoshizaki’s current warranty page states:

  • One year for the water-filter system
  • One year for replaceable elements

The current H9320 filter specification adds the important limit: the one-year replaceable-element warranty applies to defects in materials and workmanship.

This means a qualifying manufacturing defect can receive coverage during the warranty term. It does not mean Hoshizaki supplies a free cartridge when normal use consumes its capacity or when scheduled replacement becomes necessary.

Some individual Hoshizaki product pages still use language that says replaceable elements are excluded from the system warranty. That wording must not be read as eliminating the separate one-year defect warranty shown on Hoshizaki’s current warranty hub and H9320 specification. Because the manufacturer’s pages are inconsistent, confirm claim eligibility with Hoshizaki for the exact part, purchase date, and alleged defect.

Hoshizaki’s IM-series ice-machine warranty separately excludes specified damage caused by external water-supply failure, plumbing or drain problems, adverse operating conditions, and failure to clean or maintain the product as instructed. Hoshizaki’s training material also distinguishes scale or insufficient-maintenance failures from warranty defects.

A service contract can convert some variable expenses into a recurring payment. Its value depends on its written scope.

Hobart’s current service-plan terms exclude calls caused by improper water conditions, improper cleaning, failure to provide manufacturer-required water quality, or failure to maintain water-treatment equipment unless specified optional coverage is added. The terms also list consumable filters and sanitizing compounds among exclusions unless the contract says otherwise.

Easy Ice states that its standard subscription includes:

  • Two complete cleaning, sanitizing, and preventive-maintenance visits per year
  • Repair coverage described by the provider as covering 99% of repairs, subject to stated exceptions
  • Breakdown ice under stated normal-failure conditions
